This past week or so has been so busy! Not so much stressful, but constantly working. I know I shouldn't be doing this, but since I'm wanting to stay on top of studying and at least get a reasonable amount of rest too, for now, working out is on hold. But I mean, if I find I have an hour or two to spare, I do what I can. That means that if I'm not exercising as much as I should, then it's very important (as always) to eat healthy. While cooking dinner tonight (baked chicken and tomato and spinach salad) I thought, "Maybe I should post my grocery list or something?" This is all really just for reminders for myself about what to buy/what not to buy, what to get in moderation sometimes, etc. I go to Sprouts to shop every Wednesday afternoon for my groceries for the week. Sometimes, Saturdays I might need a few things here and there, so I'll just head to the Tom Thumb right down the street. Here's my receipt from grocery shopping this afternoon, and I'll post my thoughts about it. Pros and cons really.
- Skim Milk
- Plain, non-fat Greek Yogurt
- Black Beans
- Kashi Go Lean Cereal
- Chicken
- Carrots
- Broccoli
- Grape Tomatoes
- Spinach Salad
- Sweet Potatoes
- Bananas
- Oranges
- Mango
- Granny Smith Apples
- Strawberries
- Dried Cranberries (for a granola bar recipe I want to try!)
The not so healthy, eat in moderation foods...
- Sprouts Peanut Butter (almond butter is practically $10! so that's a no.)
- Annie's Mac n Cheese (this was the splurge food for the week.)
So, a review... I probably in all honestly should not have bought the macaroni, I know that, but hey it was on sale! Not the healthiest thing in the cart, but also not the worst if you think about it? Maybe? :/ Or perhaps I'm just saying that to make me feel better. I hardly ever get it anyway, maybe once a month. As for the peanut butter, I haven't bought any since before lent, so in like... 2 months? I'm trying this new granola protein bar recipe later in the week, and it called for some nut butter. I know almond butter is better for you, but oh my goodness, do you notice the prices??? The cheapest is like $9! 3 times more than peanut butter! It's hard to decide whether to just pay the extra or not.
With the rest of the groceries, I get the fruits mostly for smoothies I make a few times a week for breakfast. The strawberries also get put in with cereal in the mornings too. I can't stand cereal without strawberries, blueberries, or bananas in it now! My sister thinks it's gross to mix the two though- haha. I've been used to buying almond milk when it's on sale, but the milk was like half off, so I went for the cheaper option. So yes, there's more or less my food for the week. I have a few eggs in the fridge, so maybe some day I'll have them scrambled up with tomatoes and spinach or something, and if I go out to eat, I always try to get the healthiest thing possible. And I am trying to eat less fast food now too. Just even today, I was driving back from school at like 1:30 and I just wanted to pick something up on the way home. But I knew I had things at home I could have instead, so I opted for an apple and a smoothie. And instead of picking up a bagel or fast food breakfast like Chick Fil A or McDonalds on the way to school, I'll make a smoothie to eat in the car on the way. (It's not always the easiest situation, but it works.)
So there you have it! Since I'm on a semi-hiatus from working out as regularly as I try to, I'm at least trying to eat as healthy as I can. It's good to always be like this though. And quite frankly, minus the mac n cheese, peanut butter, and dried cranberries, this grocery list is pretty much what I buy every week! Nothing fancy, and I'm not even sure how healthy it is, but it's what I do.
